When the US sets the example of abiding by the treaties it voluntarily and freely signs, I might get a bit more exercised about Saddam not complying with terms which were imposed on him by force.

And the inspector treaties were with the UN, not with us, so it's not our affair unilaterally to go to war over those issues in the first place. That's the UN's job. And it's working on getting the inspectors back in. So on that issue there's no need to shed American blood.

I notice, too, that you don't even try to point to any provisions of our Constitution or international law which justify such an invasion.

I don't hold the illusion that Saddam is a nice guy. He isn't. But if we are to go around eliminating all the not nice guys in the world, we would run out of bombs and bullets before we ran out of not nice guys.

If you know your history, you'll know that kicking a country when it's down by imposing draconian "peace" terms has never been an effective long-term strategy for world peace, and in fact usually contains the seeds of future conflicts. It has always been a stupid strategy, and still is.
