Well, I'm not sure my interest in being a good person is the key by itself. If I see being a good person as being to my advantage, then that is in my self-interest. But if I'm the first born son of a Mafioso I may well see being quite a bad person as being in my self-interest, bonding me to my family, assuring material wealth with minimal risk of adverse consequences.
