that's where we diverge.

I think there is more to it that diverging. I would call it complete lack of understanding.

You think we starved Russia into submission; I contend the system was so corrupt it imploded upon itself.

I doubt there was any notable starvation in Soviet Block, at it's height. I am a bit curious about what you mean by the corruption of the system. Can you explain, and maybe contrast the pre-89 years with the post communist era in the iron curtain countries?

I can think of number of problems of the socialist / communist economic / political system, but I don't see corruption as the #1 problem.
