The fact that Kuchma has recently boasted of his warm links with Iraq adds credibility to US suspicions that Ukrainian nuclear materials (if not whole weapons) may have come into Iraqi possession.

Scary thought... and I can see Kuchma being used as a "cut-out" by certain elements within Russia who might see providing Saddam with a nuclear shield as the ultimate protection for their oil deals in Iraq. And I can see why Bush might not be willing to make such information public since it would embarrass Putin.

But hopefully Putin recognizes the implicit danger that lies in dealing with someone like Saddam.

So many different scenarios to worry about.

But even if he has one, he still has to be able to deliver it and that may buy some time.
