hi I'm working all hours on a biz plan so omnipresent on SI for a week or so.

Here's the thing- Applied is going to announce a 20% layoff very soon. This is a big one and unexpected. That means, sept orders had to fall off a cliff since (I THINK) august was ok. They finished their layoffs for this downturn months ago. As recently as May, they were planning on a RAMP for 03.

The problem is 1)applied is not expensive at multiyear lows for one thing but the information we do know now is backlog and b2b still positive, 2)october predictable bad month after really bad sept so I hate to short here, just looks too obvious, 3)analysts usually know about these layoff things before my buddies do.

Still if the sox goes down thats one more nail in the nasdaq.
