Oracle Signs Up New Outsourcing Customers In Europe
Sees Software Outsourcing Moving Out Of Early-Adopter Phase
Thursday October 3, 9:00 am ET

LONDON, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ( oracle.com ) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced a number of new European customers for Oracle® Outsourcing. With more than 500 Outsourcing customers worldwide, Oracle believes that the practice of outsourcing to the software vendor has now progressed beyond the early adopter phase and is entering mainstream information technology (IT) strategy.

Customers who have chosen Oracle Outsourcing in the last three months include Achilles (UK); BT Wholesale (UK); Chopard (Switzerland); Clinical Trials Services (Ireland); Co-operative Group (UK); Firmenich (Switzerland); KPMG (Belgium); Leeds and Holbeck Building Society (UK); Marienbad KUR and SPA (Czech Republic); Matalan (UK); Melexis (Belgium); O2 (UK); Polynorm NV (Netherlands); and Raiffeisenbank (Czech Republic).

As initial wariness of outsourcing subsides, organizations large and small are increasingly choosing to have Oracle manage their Oracle database, application server or applications software. Demonstrably lower IT costs, faster implementation times, more predictable monthly fees and the peace of mind that stems from the delivery of continuous online management and support by Oracle experts are frequently cited as reasons to purchase and implement software as a service.

KPMG (Belgium)

The Belgian division of global professional services organization KPMG has opted to have Oracle manage its new Oracle Professional Services Automation applications. The software is implemented on the customer's premises but managed remotely by Oracle Support Services. In doing so, KPMG Belgium estimates it has saved several months of implementation time.

"The management and support of an e-business software system is a major undertaking," said Didier Coeckelberghs, chief information officer for KPMG Belgium. "Hiring new staff and training them up in the new system would have taken months. Oracle Outsourcing was the obvious solution. Where can you find better Oracle experts than at Oracle itself?"

Clinical Trial Services (Ireland)

Ireland-based Clinical Trial Services (CTS) is a specialist supplier to the pharmaceutical industry. It leads the manufacturing, assembly, labeling, compilation and distribution of pharmaceutical materials for use in clinical trials. The trials are often global in their reach and can involve as many as 30,000 patients at up to 600 sites. CTS wanted to deploy a global database that would minimize IT costs. The company chose to use Oracle Technology Outsourcing to implement the Oracle9i Database.

Robert Smylie, network operations manager for Clinical Trial Services said, "Oracle9i Technology Outsourcing was a low-cost, low-hassle way to deploy the Oracle Database globally. As a result, CTS has reduced IT management costs by at least 25 percent."

Co-operative Group (United Kingdom)

The Commercial Division of the Co-operative Group chose Oracle Technology Outsourcing to run the company's new intranet portal, based on the portal software built into Oracle9i Application Server. The Co-operative Group, the largest consumer-owned organization of its kind in the world, is the first company in the UK to go live on an outsourced Oracle9i Database and Oracle9i Application Server with portal technology.

"Oracle Technology Outsourcing is the perfect solution for our needs," said Andrew Kemp, head of IS Development, Commercial Division, for The Co-operative Group. "We have over 5,000 employees who need to be able to access applications anytime, anywhere. It made sense for us to hand over this responsibility to Oracle as it knows its own software best. Our portal solution was up and running in 12 weeks without any disruption to our working practice and this, coupled with remote support and management through Oracle and the Co-operative Bank, provides a strong platform for further growth with added stability."

Notes to Editors - How Oracle Outsourcing Works

Oracle offers its customers the choice of three models of software delivery and management. These models are offered as alternatives to a "traditional" implementation whereby the customer installs and manages the software itself. The three models include "At Oracle," "At Customer" and "At Partner" deployments of the software.

-- In the "At Oracle" model, Oracle installs the software in its data
center in the, United States, where it is managed by Oracle
professionals. The customer accesses the software via a secure
Internet connection.

-- In the "At Customer" model, the customer installs the software on its
premises, but it is managed remotely by Oracle professionals who have
access rights to it.

-- In the "At Partner" model, the customer chooses to house its software
in a local data center run by a third party organization. The third
party manages the hardware and network connections, while Oracle
professionals manage the software. The customer accesses the software
via a secure Internet connection.
