Adtran sees higher 3rd qtr revenue, lower EPS
Thursday October 3, 6:19 am ET

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Oct 3 (Reuters) - Adtran Inc. (NasdaqNM:ADTN - News), which makes digital transmission equipment for the telecommunication industry, on Thursday said third-quarter revenue would be higher-than-expected but earnings would miss Wall Street estimates amid a tough market for the business.

The Huntsville, Alabama-based company said operating revenue for the quarter ending September 30 would be $88 million, above the $85 million forecast by Wall Street analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call.

Earnings per share were expected to range between 8 cent to 9 cents, on a generally accepted accounting principles basis, versus 14 cents seen by Wall Street analysts. Earnings, excluding an impairment charge, were expected to range from 24 cents to 26 cents.

Adtran also said it ended salary reductions for employees on September 1 after the program helped it weather a challenging market and avoid job cuts.

[Harry: Does this suggest that ADTN is seeing an uptick in
demand???? The EPS miss indicates pressure on margins despite better than expected revenue numbers.]
