Artesyn Launches Line of Next-Generation, Ultra-Efficient Point-of-Load Converters

BOCA RATON, Fla., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Artesyn Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATSN) has announced a broad new line of DC/DC point-of-load (POL) converters that offer industry-leading efficiencies and power densities. Known as the SIL06, SIL10, SIL15 and SIL30 series, this new line comprises 28 different models and extends Artesyn's position in the growing point-of-load market.

Consistent with customer needs for an increasing variety of low-voltage requirements, the SIL series of non-isolated converters offer output voltages ranging from 0.8V to 5.0V. Point-of-Load converters such as the SIL series offer the ultra-efficient on-board power conversion needed by today's advanced integrated circuits. Constructed entirely of surface-mount components, the SIL converters are available in horizontal or vertical orientations, with the SIL10 model providing an unprecedented 96% conversion efficiency and 107W/in3 power density.

"The SIL product line further extends Artesyn's position as a market leader in point-of-load technology," commented Artesyn's President and CEO, Joseph M. O'Donnell. "Power designers today are developing more sophisticated forms of distributed power architectures, using both isolated and non-isolated DC/DC converters. These products have wide appeal from cost-critical workstation, server and storage applications to high-reliability devices such as optical networking and wireless infrastructure. The market for non- isolated and point-of-load converts in general is expected to grow significantly in the future and these products provide the performance and flexibility to meet current and future customer requirements."

All products in the SIL series employ an open-frame, single-board construction to minimize cost and weight and simplify thermal management. Output currents range from 6A for the SIL06 up to 30A for the SIL30. The high power density and low profile of these products minimizes the footprint required, saving customers valuable board space. They are designed for fully- automated assembly, to keep manufacturing costs low, and will be manufactured at the company's facilities in Ireland and China.

Artesyn's SIL series of converters are currently available for customer sampling.
