I have kept my commentary about the longshoremen situation to a minimum for a reason. I have a very strong bias against unions, not only philosophically but also from experience.

When I was 16, I worked at the Sahara Tahoe as a busboy. The food and beverage union came in and rallied the troops to get the union in. I had three reasons for not wanting to join; 1. My Dad was the food manager of the hotel/casino, 2. There was no reason to have a union. We made decent money when you counted tips and they gave you three free meals a day, good medical coverage and plenty of breaks. 3. I believe that employment agreements should be between the individual and the employer. If the terms of employment aren't good, then don't work there. Let the free market take care of what is and isn't appropriate.

When they decided to strike (to get the union in), I decided not to. These people who had been my friends before the strike were physically threatening me and vandalized my car.

I was watching the news this morning and saw one of the picketers signs that showed a drawing of a gun to a (unionworker) head saying something about negotiating at gunpoint. An obvious reference to the walkout due to the armed security guards at the meeting the other day.

If the freakin unions didn't use threats of physical violence to intimidate non-union workers and management, then maybe they wouldn't feel the need to protect themselves from them.

IMHO, f*ck em. Let em get a job at McDonalds.
