Wireless Mesh Networking is developing at a rapid pace. Most of the companies involved are still private but a lot of VC money has been pumped into this area despite the crash in communications. Some new entrants, one open forum and another a commercial startup venture have recently announced new product betas:

www.locustworld.com
www.greenpacket.com

The direction these new entrants are taking is the development of collaborative software suites that include messaging, ptp file sharing, video and other features besides mesh networking. That makes good sense because mesh networking is just a routing mechanism and no big deal to the user. MN extends the reach of wireless networks but it also creates an environment for distributing routing and resources more dynamically than fixed networks. I think it's great to see this slant on MN . . this could become a hot area of development.
