ESI Introduces Model 330 MLCC Termination System with a Multiple System Sale to Team Young Advanced Ceramics Businesswire, Thursday, October 03, 2002 at 12:10
PORTLAND, Ore., Oct 3, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (Nasdaq:ESIO) today introduced the Model 330, a belt-based, automatic termination system for surface-mount, multi-layer capacitors (MLCC).
Team Young Advanced Ceramics Company, a leading manufacturer of MLCC components has placed a multiple system order. The first system was delivered to Taoyuan, Taiwan during ESI's first fiscal quarter, ended August 31, 2002. The remaining systems will ship during ESI's third and fourth fiscal quarters, ending May 31, 2003.
The Model 330 is the latest development in ESI's successful termination system line. It has device-handling capabilities for a broad range of chip sizes and configurations, down to the 0402 part, which is 0.04 x 0.02 of an inch, with a throughput of up to 480,000 chips per hour. The Model 330 offers full automation, high throughput, industry-leading yields, and low consumables costs for the termination of a wide variety of MLCC chip sizes and configurations."After evaluating our options, including carrier plate systems and automated Jig Plate systems, we selected ESI's Model 330 belt-based termination system. The cost savings we realize lead us to replace much of our existing termination capacity with Model 330s,"said D. C. Wang, President of Team Young Advanced Ceramics."Aside from the cost savings, the termination quality advantages of ESI's belt-based systems have been critical to securing product qualifications from some of the most demanding end-users of MLCCs."RETURN RETURN"With average selling prices and gross margins of capacitors at all time lows, capacitor manufacturers are struggling to control costs in their manufacturing processes. The Model 330 reduces component termination costs by as much as 75 percent when compared to previous generation termination systems,"said Keith Taft, vice president of ESI's Electronic Component Systems Division."With the combination of the significant cost savings it offers to our customers and the aging installed base of termination equipment, the Model 330 is opening up replacement opportunities in an otherwise down market, and is positioning ESI favorably for the MLCC market recovery."About ESI
