In part. But I tend to believe that a good part of it has to do with the mentality that tells certain segments of society that they might as well not try and better themselves because the "system owes them"...

After all, they've been economically "brutalized" by the "elite"...

And it's conveyed to them in this manner in order to bring "prestige" and power to the cynical leadership attempting to enrich itself at the expense of their own racial or ethnic grouping. Jesse Jackson is a prime example as he uses his "bully pulpit" to extort donations out of corporations.

But that doesn't explain why African blacks feel so little sympathy for their American "brethren"...

Maybe it's because they know what they have, and they worked damn hard to get it... Just like most of us other so-called "elites".
