The cold war was often used as a cover to pull off coups that were really designed to benefit American mulitnationals. In Chile ITT, Pepsi and some copper firm that I can't remember the name of benefited. In Guatamela it was the United Fruit Company that benefited. In Iran is was the American oil companies that benefited. Now there may have been an overarching cold war goal behind the coups, but I believe that was used more as a cover so the multinations and wealthy elites who own them could get their way in countries that had uncooperative governments.

Perhaps Somolia and Kosovo are examples of America at it's finest. Intervening militarily for altruistic reasons. Yes, you're right it would be hard to find a way that these interventions benefitted American elites. Perhaps in an abstract way by reinforcing American hemegony over the world.

Re: Aramco Even the CIA isn't perfect. There are others out there who can and will challenge their power. I'm not really familiar with that case. I'll have to research it.

Look, I'm not trying to beat up on the good ole USA. It's my country too. I just want to call a spade a spade. The USA hasn't always been the white night in the world, especially in cases where the CIA was used to further the interests of wealthy Americans.
