<<I'm just assuming that more folks quit looking for jobs and fell out of the stats?>>

Funny exchange on BubbleVision now, between Mark Haines and Elaine Chao. Elaine was busily trumpeting how the report indicated that the economy was "strong". Haines pointed out that the headline number consisted of a ratio, and was about to ask a question (presumably) about why the denominator had decreased so much. Elaine cut him off, saying "You don't have to explain that to me, I went to Harvard Business School!" Haines was stunned for a minute, in the meantime Steve Leeson picked up the ball and pointed out that non-farm payrolls FELL, continuing claims were rising and that the number of "discouraged" workers was responsible for the lower headline number. ROTFL, great comedy, errr, television!
