The question is, is it genuinely a
matter of indifference for people to hold such views? Is it sufficient to answer
that it "makes them happy"?

Nobody has asked you to be indifferent to their views, have they?

In fact, I said very plainly that the answer to bad speech is good speech. You are fully entitled to try to persuade them that their ideas are wrong, just as you spend time here trying to persuade Karen that her ideas are wrong (and vice versa).

But yes, I think it IS sufficient to say that if holding certain views makes people happy, that is a sufficient answer. It is up to you to persuade them either that their felt happiness is empheral, or that changing their views will make them even happier. If your views are the right ones for them, you will be able to accomplish that. If your views are the wrong ones for them, you will -- and should -- fail.
