what are you talking about?
Who ever said anything like the kind of things you are saying? I don't think you really understood what this was about. It isn't about not making judgments- we ALL do that. It is about letting college aged students understand that other people can make different, and sometimes very scary judgments- as the German people did. Why did they make these judgments? How did they get to that point where it all made sense? Inquiring into that, is NOT approving of it. This so reminds me of the desire, on the part of some people, to absolutely fail to look into causes for 9/11. A CAUSE is not an excuse. It is merely to understand the genesis of something. To understand the genesis of the Nazi movement is not to approve of Nazis. I cannot imagine any teacher not teaching about the gereral horror on the part of the rest of the world, once the Nazi plan came to light. Alternately, though, we live in a free society, and while we can condemn horror, we have no right to go inside the brains of others, and scoop the horror out, if they prefer a horrible version of the world. We are not free, if our thoughts are not free. Now do we have the right to act on this, and to endanger others? NO. But Neo, you seem to be suggesting some sort of deprogramming camp for people who don't think the way you want them to. Surely you can see what a terrible slippery slope that would be? - No matter how noble your goal of rooting out the "bad ideas" you are trying to iradicate. |
