for many persons -- I don't include anybody in this discussion, but for many others -- truth is a very painful and uncomfortable thing. The unexamined life may indeed be eminently comfortable and easy. I think that's why, for example, many citizens accept quite repressive governments and rationalize their existence, because thinking about the alternative is very hard work. I can easily understand, frankly, why many people would prefer just to condemn the bombing of the WTC outright and anybody who had anything do with any group which might have had anything to do with it. Actually looking at the reality of who did what is really both hard and potentially very disquieting.
