Richard, that quote you posted from his August, 2000 Marketimer particularly disturbed me when I first read it. Notably absent from his January Marketimer, and for several months after as the bull continued, was any reference that his model had turned bearish. Indeed, you may recall the market escalating into March, 2000 as the bull market peaked. When asked if his model was bearish then, Bob took great pains to avoid answering in the affirmative, and instead, relegated his response to explaining that his January "signal" was a tactical asset allocation move and that his model had turned "unfavorable" back then, but never "bearish." Only in the fall of 2000, once the market had finally entered into its bear descent, did Bob retroactively refer to his January move as a "sell signal" based on his model turning "bearish." He lost a lot of credibility in my opinion (and for many of my subscribers) with this spin particularly given that the "model" was so critical to his entire market timing philosophy.
