Hi all; Kuwait reports Germany considers pulling anti terror forces from Arabian Peninsula if Iraq is attacked:

Fuchs armored vehicles would be withdrawn if war erupts -- official
Kuwaiti News Agency, October 4, 2002
A German official said Friday that his government would withdraw its six Fuchs armored vehicles, which have been stationed in the Arab Peninsula since last February within the framework to fight international terrorism, if Iraq is exposed to a military attack.

The State Secretary at the Defense Ministry, Walter Kolbow said in an interview with Inforadio Berlin-Brandenburg that the decision of the Bundestag (Parliament) that was issued last January stipulates that the Fuchs would only be used to fight international terrorism.

He pointed out, "these armored vehicles would not be used for other purposes such as changing the Iraqi regime by force."

He added, "any attack against a country in the region requires a new assessment of the conditions there and according to these assessments a political decision would be taken, if necessary according to an international authorization."

Kolbow emphasized that there is no disagreement between the Defense Minister, Peter Struck and the Foreign Minister, Joschka Fischer over this issue.

Fischer has recently declared that the Fuchs will remain in the Arab Peninsula even if a war erupts in the region while struck declared earlier that the armored vehicles would be withdrawn if Iraq is attacked.
