Advanced Healthcare Technologies subsidiary, Advanced Hyperbaric Technologies Discusses Upcoming Clinical Research Projects
FARMINGDALE, N.J., Sep 25, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Advanced Healthcare Technologies (OTC BB:AVHC) and its subsidiary Advanced Hyperbaric Technologies, Inc. (AHT) are planning to commit significant resources toward clinical research projects to quantify the results achieved with AHT's Topical Hyperbaric Oxygen Extremity Chambers.
Currently, AHT is conducting research at three facilities that specialize in wound healing and wound healing research.
AHT has been working with leading wound care researchers from the Natural and Health Sciences Research Center at Daemen College in Amherst, New York. As a result of the initial studies completed by Daemen College, two articles have been written; both were submitted to a well-recognized peer reviewed medical journal "Ostomy Wound Management" for publication.
Both have been accepted for publication, one appeared in the April 2002 issue and the second will be published in the November 2002 issue, which specializes in wound care. Daemen College researchers continue to collect data on an ongoing basis.
Based on initial results achieved with Topical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, researchers are beginning a large Prospective, Randomized, Double-blind, and Controlled Multi-Center Study.
One of the main goals of a study this type is to generate clinical information necessary for Medicare and other insurance providers to pay for Topical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in patient's homes as well as on an outpatient basis.
The second research project will begin in October. AHT plans to commit resources to the Northeast Center for Special Care, a 250-bed spinal cord injury center. In the study, researchers will investigate the clinical efficacy of both the disposable sacral chamber and the extremity chamber.
The third research project that will also begin in October will begin at a large Wound Care Center in New York. The research project will be a 100 patient controlled study. A controlled study of this size is significant as clinicians, when evaluating treatments, look for controlled studies with large numbers of patients treated.
Phillip E. Loori, CEO of AHT states "While there have been many studies done and papers published on Topical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in the past, most of them were anecdotal, meaning patients served as their own controls. While these anecdotal studies showed an overall 90+ percent success rate in healing, the company believes Medicare, some private insurance plans, and some clinicians will not accept those studies as proof positive. What is needed to convince Medicare and others of the efficacy of Topical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy are controlled, Double-blind studies that we are planning to conduct. We anticipate preliminary results of these studies in June 2003. The preliminary results will be helpful in our ongoing sales and marketing efforts. Once the studies are complete they will be presented at national wound care and other specialty medical conferences and published in peer review medical journals".
