Digital security company TTR Technologies of New York has held preliminary talks with Macrovision to sell most of its assets. Terms of a potential deal were not disclosed.

TTR said it has agreed to negotiate exclusively with Macrovision until Nov. 2. Macrovision already owns 10.5% of TTR. It acquired that stake for $4 million in Jan. 2000.

TTR said it would no longer participate in the music protection and digital rights management business if the two companies reach a deal. Its board has not finalized a business plan for the company following the consummation of the potential transaction.

TTR and Macrovision are developing a product together, which is designed to inhibit copying CDs using dual-deck CD recorder systems and personal computer based CD recordable drives.
