Yep, almost instantaneous religious conversions not uncommon in dangerous circumstances.

During previous centuries most people were religious. One just has to look at the number of churches built. Their lives were unpredictable. Most children died in the first few years, lots of hazards as you grew older too.

So science has made things safer in various ways. medicine, engineering, education. The odd thing is we still become religious when unmanagable danger threatens.

Only when life is very safe can one afford non religious views. Take Albert Einstein's quote..

o - Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.

OK to say for scientific research in a safe environment. In previous centuries substitute..

Common sense is the deep wisdom aquired to be able to stay alive to such an advanced age as 18 yrs.
