Canadian Teen Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize.

Canadian Press

Sunday, October 6 – Online Edition, Posted at 3:50 PM EST

Ottawa — Canadian teen activist Craig Kielburger has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, possibly making him the youngest person ever to have his name put forward.

Kielburger, 19, and his organization, Kids Can Free the Children, were nominated by Revenue Minister Elinor Caplan and U.S. Congresswoman Lois Capps. Another congresswoman started a petition on the group's behalf.

Mr. Kielburger said he's excited about the nomination, but doesn't think a child or a children's organization would be recognized.

There are 156 candidates nominated for the $1-million (U.S.) prize, including former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, U.S. President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

At least one other Canadian, retired Senator Jacques Hebert, is known to have been nominated for the prize.
