MIke go back to that old post from April 2000, the various reasons for a secular bear, are a combination of overvaluation, time required for equilibrium to reestablished (including rebuilding balance sheet by both corporations and consumers) and elimination of the excess in capacity by a gradually increasing demand and the simultaneous gradual closing of less efficient capacity. This in many sectors of the economy, from car production (demand at around 40 to 50 MM units a year, WW capacity at 80 MM/year), raw materials (particularly, steel aluminum, copper and even crude oil), agricultural products, communications, semi capacity and the list goes on (it even includes gold were capacity has actually been increasing over the last ten years). This will take a long time to accomplish.
