The aversion to the word "duty" is one of the more interesting things to contemplate in a discussion like this. But it would be a travesty to think that we deserved accolades for treating people with ordinary courtesy, showing our children attention, or cultivating our minds according to our abilities.

The aversion to "duty" does not imply that accolades for simple courtesy or paying attention to one's kids are appropriate. The two are tied together in your scheme--duty distinguishes between accolade-warranted and not. I assure you that I have no intention of giving away any unwarranted accolades. <g>
