I took the boat out yesterday to see for myself what they were talking about.

I also went up to Fort MacArthur which sits on a bluff overlooking the Harbor. There's a spectacular view from the Officer's Club. On a clear day, you can see all the way down to Newport and beyond. We're in a "Santa Ana" condition where the winds have blown all the smog and junk out of the way. It's quite a sight.

All of the people that are manning those ships are stuck on them. They can't come ashore because the water taxis won't cross the picket lines. The union guys made a big deal out of taking some supplies out to one boat - to get the publicity - and then that was it.

Some interesting things going on out there. If you look like you're getting too near one of the ships, a boat will approach and ask you what your business is with the ship. These are union guys on private boats keeping everyone away from the ships.
