If there were no other social influences, it would be hard not to, because one knew no better. There are influences, however, which afford one a knowledge that a conflict exists. One would always hope that, eventually, one would resolve the conflict in the best way possible, but it would probably take some time. Jefferson developed enough to know that slavery was wrong, but not enough to free his slaves......
