It is unfortunate that yo missed the monalogue...it was great. Bob was upbeat in a big way on the inflation numbers. I just replayed the tape, here are some bullets of the monologue: - He laughed at Mr. Rogers after a .1% increase in the CPI mor month of June. -CPI in the last 12 months up 2.3%, experimental price consumption deflator lower than 2%. "This is great for the economy". -Annualized inflation for the first 6 months of 1997 up 1.4%. Lowest since 1986 for the first half of a year. -Allan Greenspans Humphrey Hawkins Testimony happens this week. (wednesday I think) "Dont expect anything shocking from Dr. Green shades...I don't expect he'll do anything dramatic".. -Industrial production up 3/10 of 1% for June (3.5% annual rate), Capacity utilization steady at 83.5% and business inventories up just 3/10 of 1%. This he said is bullish since there's enough product stored and enough excess capacity for price inflation to stay tame. -4th consececutive month CPI up 1/10 of 1% -2.4% increase in core rate of inflation. "Do you believe this".."Thats the lowest core rate of inflation since 1965...a 32 year low". he said. -"Hey Mr. Bowtie..Where's the beef" he said. "Where's the runaway inflation" ? "All is behaving beautifully". He said "As far as inflation is concerned, we should have a party". -"And yet you still have the Doom and Gloom predicted". Hope this helps, and for those of you who have a tough time tuning in due to preempting the program and so forth...Tune into thru the internet.
