I guess I would say that the only way you can support the notion that it is all a matter of self- interest is by defining self- interest so broadly it is practically without meaning. It still comes back to this: just because we are interested does not make an action self- interested. The question is, what is it that we care about? Sometimes it is our individual fates, sometimes it is something external to us. It only makes sense to call it "self" interest if the object of concern is the "self".......
