Acer First to Introduce Notebooks and PDAs Powered by MobileWise' Wire-Free Electric Power
Los Altos, CA, Oct. 1, 2002 - Mobile devices will become truly mobile early next year as MobileWise announced today that Acer, one of the world's top ten branded PC vendors, plans to incorporate MobileWise's safe, wire-free electric power technology into the design of all its newest mobile computing products.
In becoming a MobileWise customer, Acer is poised to become the first major computer manufacturer to incorporate technology that that solves the Last Wire™ problem - the dependency on plugging in mobile devices for electric power. MobileWise equipped notebooks and PDAs from Acer are expected in the market in the first half of 2003.
MobileWise recently introduced the first application of its wire-free electric power technology, the Wire-Free-Electricity Base™. The flat surface of the Wire-free Electricity Base resembles a small desk blotter calendar. Once a MobileWise-enabled device is placed anywhere on the Base, it will be powered and charged, as if it is plugged to an electric outlet. The Wire-Free-Electricity Base is as safe to use as a mouse pad—with no concerns about liquid or food spills. It's even safe to place metallic or magnetic objects on it. It emits no harmful radiation, and causes no radio interference.
The Wire-free Electricity Base's power delivery counterpart, the Wire-Free-Electricity Adapter(tm), integrates into a mobile device, enabling the mobile device to draw power from the Wire-free Electricity Base.
"Acer will be the first to deliver a mobile PC that offers true mobility, added-value, and ease of use to customers," said Arif Maskatia, VP & CTO of Acer Inc. "Safe wire-free electricity is something the market has been waiting for, and Acer once again proves its leading position."
MobileWise technology is "consumer-friendly," meeting requirements of relevant safety and Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards.
"The mobile devices of tomorrow will be recharged and powered with no need for power adapters, chargers and cords," said MobileWise CEO Andy Goren. "Acer's readiness to implement safe wire-free electricity technology will help mobile professionals cut the last cord. The value-add of MobileWise technology will help Acer maintain its competitive edge." |
