Thanks. I believe what Washington was worried about was young America's falling into the orbit of one of the Great Powers. That America should be a Great Power herself, much less the sole Superpower, hardly entered into the picture at the time.

Our detached and distant situation invites and enables us to pursue a different course

Are we still detached? are we still distant? the world is much smaller today. The US has not been taking Washington's advice for well over a century now.
