another new trading strategy that is new to me......

some traders are selling at ECN bids that are below the best bid.

I've been trying to figure out why they would do such.

If there's an uptick, they can short without taking it out?? I've watched, and it appears that's the case. The uptick stays in place, even though the last trade is below best bid.

I'm not saying that the selling is shorting. For all I know, there's a wrinkle to the uptick rule that forbids shorting if the last trade is below best bid. I'm just describing what I've seen in several issues under $1.

Maybe someone is just working them down to score a big block that is available. I dunno.

Any other thoughts re. a rational explanation?
