And Gore has been outflanked by GW (the supposed dunce). GW has gained the authority to use force, and then promised to negotiate. Re-read AG's speech last week, and compare it to GW's. There are those who say that Gore looks like a complete idiot. Now, I don't necessarily agree with them, but nevertheless, it is being said. <VBG>

Question: Is one's negotiating position stronger or weaker once the resolve to go to war, if necessary, has been established?

The answer is obvious. GW has obtained the authority to go to war. If we fight Iraq, Saddam's power will crumble like a house of cards, and Iraqis will dance on his corpse. He knows this and is now trying to save his hide. Consider that in just a few weeks Iraq has gone from very defiant to nearly total submission. GW has shown the strength and the resolve to force Iraq to adhere to the terms of surrender from the last war. Because of GW"s resolve, we might actually avoid war.
