That is so very wrong.

I urge you to read a little about Game Theory for an understanding of how the common good can be, and often is, achieved through means that have little to do with individual good.

You have probably watched A Beautiful Mind but that is a very superficial introduction into Game Theory. Do try to read about how it relates to benefit maximization.
