KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is considering buying 18 F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter planes from Boeing in an
arrangement that includes trading in eight older F/A-18Ds, said Paul Walters, Boeing's regional vice president for
Southeast Asia.

The government is also considering buying helicopters and airborne surveillance systems from Boeing. A decision on the
purchase may come "very soon," Malaysian Defense Minister Najib Tun Razak said. An order for new fighters may come
in early 2003, Bernama News cited Najib saying last month. The deal may be worth almost $1.5 billion, the news agency
said.
