Really? Most of that can be dismissed as wild, unproven and probably unfounded conjecture and speculation. Ray Duray on valium.
It would be the culmination of a plan 10 years or more in the making, carried out by those who believe the United States must seize the opportunity for global domination, even if it means becoming the "American imperialists" that our enemies always claimed we were. So this guy's privy to the innermost secrets of the American gov't? Because I doubt that there announcing this stuff in press releases.
Because we won't be leaving. Having conquered Iraq, the United States will create permanent military bases in that country from which to dominate the Middle East, including neighboring Iran. Maybe. We haven't left Europe or Japan yet. We did leave the Phillipines, though, when its gov't asked. Oh, Europe. Remember France? Our good buddies told us to get our butts out of their country. We did.
Dominate? The Europeans thumb their noses at us on a regular basis these days.
Lapdog imperialists is what I'd call us.
That is absolute crap.
In an interview Friday, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld brushed aside that suggestion, noting that the United States does not covet other nations' territory. That may be true, but 57 years after World War II ended, we still have major bases in Germany and Japan. W will do the same in Iraq. Right. They were set up after WW2 in each case, first for occupation (we did fight and win a war with them), and then to hold off the Soviet bear. Their gov'ts have not asked us to leave.
And why has the administration dismissed the option of containing and deterring Iraq, as we had the Soviet Union for 45 years? We had no choice with the USSR. A war with them was going to be WW3- -the end of civilization. Iraq is quite a different proposition. We don't have to settle for the long, hard, and expensive solution.
You still want to be dealing with this problem 40 years from now?
Because even if it worked, containment and deterrence would not allow the expansion of American power. Besides, they are beneath us as an empire. Rome did not stoop to containment; it conquered. And so should we. Oh, cut the crap. Anti-American BS.
That thing is a bit long to deal with in one post. Actually, it would be a semester project to refute it. Probably part of the intent. |
