Thank God we have a president who's smarter than that. Guess he's not such a moron after all, huh?

Tenchusatsu, you have a strong need to make everything one kind of commodity.......even when the elements are not there. IMO the situation between Israel, and the PLO and Hamas is not at all analogous to the situation between the US and the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

Secondly, you keep Hamas out of the loop, you will never get to peace. Hamas doesn't owe its allegiance to Arafat so a treaty between Arafat and Israel means nothing to it. You and I may not like the fact Hamas exists but unfortunately it does. So long as it remains illegitimate, it presents a very serious danger. By bestowing some legitimacy to it, you are given a chance to compromise its agenda. Otherwise, it continues to be a rogue organization owing allegiance to no one and underminding any hope for peace.
