I'm not aware of the importance of 52-week lows in the older writings on Dow Theory. The 1942 bottom was considered by some to be a bullish divergence because the Transports held above their 1940 low. JMHO, and I realize that Richard Russell may see it differently.

Also, bullish divergences are probably less important than confirmations, which Dow Theory places great emphasis on.
