You know sometimes the parents are not helping the children make wise choices either- and then you are expecting ignorant children to be able to choose the adults (from outside their families) that can best them. I think that is unrealistic. I wish such children could often find competent adult roll models to replace their defective (imo) parents, but to put a duty on them to do this, strikes me as heaping judgment, on an already unfortunate individual.
