Ted, you and I may not like the fact Al Qaeda exists but unfortunately it does. So long as it remains illegitimate, it presents a very serious danger. By bestowing some legitimacy to it, you are given a chance to compromise its agenda. Otherwise, it continues to be a rogue organization owing allegiance to no one and underminding any hope for peace. Hamas is a full fledged organization that operates primarily within the confines of Palestine and has significant ties to the Palestinian community.
