Fortunately, the Sandinistas recognized how unprogressive their war of ethnic cleansing against the Miskito made them look in the eyes of the world. So they stopped slaughtering them and negotiated a treaty which allowed tens of thousands of refugees to return to their homes.

Sure the Reagan administration did exploit the situation to weaken the Sandinistas. That wouldn't have been possible though if there hadn't been Sandinista persecution in the first place though.
