Sort of interesting that many of the vets that went to Congress are Democrats, isn't it?

I think it has to do with the fact that Democrats have for years been seen as weak on foreign policy and defense, and being a Vietnam Veteran was probably like a vaccine for them, making the Vietnam Veteran Democrat more likely to beat a Republican than a non-Vietnam Veteran.

I generally don't buy the argument that people who personally experienced an issue, action or event are inherently better judges of than those who personally did not experience it. Mark Shields, who is (or has been) a talking head on CNN and PBS keeps making an argument (over and over and over) that war veterans are somehow better equipped to make war and peace decisions, and should be immune from criticism.
