I generally don't buy the argument that people who personally experienced an issue, action or event are inherently better judges of than those who personally did not experience it. Mark Shields, who is (or has been) a talking head on CNN and PBS keeps making an argument (over and over and over) that war veterans are somehow better equipped to make war and peace decisions, and should be immune from criticism.

Joe, that's ridiculous. You sound pompous. First hand experience is often considered invaluable when evaluating a situation, particularly an event as unique as war. Its why experienced people are considered desirable in every vocation.

Just because they don't agree with your opinion does not mean you should discount out of hand. After all, by listening to them, you might learn something.
