I told my son about this little debate on SI, which led to a discussion of burning people, hanging them, branding them, etc for various crimes. And then, at some point, my son said "But if there WERE witches they would have used their powers to avoid getting burned up..." and there is the big DUH that many people seem to have been able to avoid in the past. I wonder why. I am sure reasons were fabricated. Reasons always are. The questions really is, why do people believe these reasons?
