Did you see Geo. Will on Charlie Rose last night? He interpreted the Europeans'--particularly the French and the German--opposition to the Iraq invasion as envy of our power. According to Will, diplomacy without the ability to impose one's views is essentially meaningless. Since the Europeans have no military means of enforcing their views on the US--and probably wouldn't even they did--they are free to take ineffective diplomatic potshots at us. I'm not sure I agree with Will's analysis, though it probably has some validity as respects strategic and security issues. He is fun to read, but is probably not the sharpest conservative thinker around.
