Why would being female make the sniper undetectable? Because people wouldn't be looking for a woman?
Yup. Obviously I don't mean that a woman would be "undetectable" in the sense of interdiction or, as previously-stated, if caught in the act: I mean, in terms of being a suspect, being profiled, etc. - even being in the vicinity at the time of the crime, they'd tend to be grossly overlooked.
One can only imagine how long the sniper would be able to evade capture for if it took the form of a housewife-motif woman, driving around in a station wagon with groceries and kids in the back. Terrifying.
Gosh, even now? After thousands of women have received basic artillery training in our Armed Forces?
Snipers are an infantry asset - a male-only CMF/MOS - usually at the battalion level. And despite the fact that women can become artillery officers in certain types of batteries, the only such jobs in which they'd become sniper-like (not, as such, snipers) - are as forward observers: which, like any infantry positions, are not open to them.
