As I recently asked in this space, by what logic does the blessing of these countries bestow moral legitimacy on American action?

By the same rule that Bush invoked at the UN...if it is to be relevant it must act as a body. I guess he meant that only to apply to action which is in keeping with what Bush wants. In other words, more of the same my way or the highway business.

China's leaders are the butchers of Tiananmen Square.

And of course American history is not tattered by similar immoralities. We don't have a history of slavery and displacement of the natives of this country. Our moralities are simply a function of the evolution of our society versus theirs.

France and Russia will decide the Iraq question based on the coldest calculation of their own national interest, meaning money and oil.

What a crock of $hit. When was the last time this guy wrote about the many atrocities we as a country have chosen to ignore in the recent and remote past for lack of national interest. He suggests as unethical what we have done routinely. As if politics (and yes, oil) had nothing to do with Bush's motivations this time around.
