When I called your position "shallow", you came back at me as if I were saying that respect for the right of self- determination, for freedom, were shallow. Since no one denied that a competent adult has that right, it seemed inappropriate. It had seemed to me that you were saying that I had no reason to think that I was particularly right, although I was free to share my opinion (as non- judgmentally as possible) with the party. I called that "shallow" because I had very cogent reasons, which you ignored, to demonstrate that it was not all the same, and that some social interest was inevitable. That does not mean that I think there should be a law, or that I would ordinarily make it my business. It does mean that I have no problem with societal institutions promoting one thing over another, that I have no problem with parents and teachers pushing some on children, or with myself having and expressing, in a general way, such a point of view.....
