The corn is used for ethanol which is blended with gasoline, usually 90% gas and 10% ethanol. It cuts emissions about in half because the alcohol causes a more complete burn of the hydrocarbons. Fuel injected vehicles can run up to 85% alcohol with no problem. The cars in the Indy 500 run 100% alcohol.
