"drilling is not always necessary depending on the topography...." That's exactly what Guide 7 says, and is consistent with Guido's work.

"It is almost impossible to sample large zones in three dimensions without drilling." In the case of Chaco, part of the mountain has been eroded over a period of many decades, by the "booming" operation of the locals. This has left it exposed from top to bottom, permitting it to be easily sampled in the third dimension. Most of Guido's work, and his proven reserves, were from this area.
